\”Two Jews, three opinions.\” The old joke plays on an important truth: different Jews often take different paths to the spiritual wisdom of our faith. Some worship fully and joyously using the traditional liturgy, some relate best to Jewish music, some love to celebrate holy days with their children in song, and some find conventional services inaccessible but long for a communal forum to discuss religious issues. At Society Hill Synagogue, we believe in inclusion, embracing as many of these diverse approaches as possible.
Friday and Saturday Services
Friday Evening Services are 6:15 PM and Saturday Shabbat Morning Services are at 10 AM.
Every Shabbat we feature Torah study: On the first and third Saturdays of each month, Rabbi Winokur and guest Rabbi Marjorie Berman lead a fascinating Torah study session from 9 am to 10 am, focusing on that day’s Torah portion. Rabbi Winokur leads Torah study during the other Shabbatot.
Participation-oriented, our Shabbat services are based in the Conservative liturgy and mostly in Hebrew. To that base, we add special monthly services that use music in different and inventive ways. Please check our calendar each month for:
- TGIShabbat (Friday evening) Once a month, this exciting, hour long musical Shabbat service begins at 6:15 PM.
- Family Service (Saturday morning) Once a month, beginning at 10:30 AM, this service is shorter in length than our standard Shabbat worship and with more English; this service appeals to all ages. At the same time we feature a more traditional lay-led minyan.
- Tot Shabbat (Saturday morning) Once a month at 11:30 AM, this service is led by the Cantor and delightfully oriented toward the youngest children in our community.
- Morning Minyan
