For the sins we have committed by not showing up for others,
and for the sins we have committed by not showing up for ourselves.
For the sins we have committed by holding our tongues at injustice,
and for the sins we have committed by contributing to it through our own deeds.
For the sin of allowing those with ill-intent to speak on behalf of Jews and Israel,
and for the sin of assuming ill-intent from those who speak on behalf of Palestinians.
For the sin of establishing a “right way” and “wrong way” to be Jewish,
and for the sin of acting in ways that betray our own Jewish values.
For the sin we commit when we tell “white lies” because it is easier than the truth,
and for the sin we commit when we speak with brutal honesty when not asked for.
For the sin of gossip, amplified through misinformation on social media,
and for the sin of allowing that gossip to inform our knowledge and worldview.
For the sin of closing our ears to others arguing in good faith,
and for the sin of arguing in bad faith.
For the sin of tokenizing our Jewish identity to benefit or gain social capital,
and for the sin of hiding our Jewish identity when it is inconvenient to us.
For all of these, G-d of pardon, pardon us, forgive us, atone for us. Amen.
