Eighty years after his liberation from Buchenwald, Elie Wiesel: Soul on Fire invites audiences to look beyond Night and encounter the life and legacy of Elie Wiesel in depth. The screening will be followed by a moderated conversation with the film’s writer and director, Oren Rudavsky, Rabbi Nathan Kamesar of Society Hill Synagogue, and Pastor Jason Ferris of Old Pine Street Presbyterian Church, exploring memory, moral responsibility, and the role of art as witness.
Told largely through Elie Wiesel’s own words and voice, Soul on Fire offers an intimate portrait of a Holocaust survivor who became one of the most influential moral witnesses of the twentieth century. Through rare archival material, original interviews, and hand-painted animation, the documentary explores Wiesel’s work as a writer, teacher, and public figure, and his enduring insistence on memory, responsibility, and the danger of indifference.
Following the screening, filmmaker Oren Rudavsky will join Rabbi Nathan Kamesar and Pastor Jason Ferris for a conversation. The discussion will consider Wiesel’s legacy and how remembrance, faith, and civic responsibility intersect across traditions.
This very special evening is open to the public and warmly welcomes participants from a wide range of religious and secular communities throughout Greater Philadelphia.
